Geoff Pearman

Paul Strand the American photographer once said, ‘The important thing is, you have to have something important to say about the world through your photography.’

Whether it is conveying something of the beauty of the natural world or offering commentary on social or environmental concerns. Finding your photographic voice can bring a fresh dimension and intentionality to your photography.

Raised on a farm in North Auckland I love the land – Manaaki Whenua. I enjoy exploring the land, the valleys, mountains, rolling countryside and coast lines with camera in hand. My career has largely been in social work and adult education. As such I care deeply about issues of social justice. It is these themes that often find expression in my work.

As a photographer I enjoy the abstract expressionist genre in photography. The creative process brings immense satisfaction. Whether it is creating images using in camera or post processing techniques, writing and integrating text into my work or printing and crafting handmade books and cards.

I live at Sawyers Bay near Dunedin – Ōtepoti, New Zealand.
