Franky Malone

When I left school, one of the first things I bought was a small camera.

As a young child I was captivated by the slide shows my Dad put on for the family. When I left school, one of the first things I bought was a small camera. While I quickly outgrew it, it taught me the joy of photography.

It wasn’t long before I landed a job in the photographic industry. I fell in love with the printing process, and seeing the magic of the image appear. Eventually I started my own business, with a photographic studio, minilab and custom colour enlargements darkroom.

My achievements include winning a camera while still an amateur photographer and having my image on the cover of a magazine for a year, gaining two bronze medals in PSNZ national competitions, being Professional Wedding Photographer of the Year two years running in my region, and having one of my photos exhibited in the NZIPP Trans-Tasman exhibition one year.

My business was portraiture, but for fun I prefer other styles of photography. I have an eclectic taste, but drift more towards traditional. While I strive to do better with abstract and ICM, I have yet to find my stride there.

I have embraced digital photography and the Affinity editing program as it keeps the processing of each image squarely in my control, and allows the full range of expression and exploration in every photo.
